This Pumpkin Investigation activity is great for young and older students, alike! Students will be investigating pumpkins and learning more about them through a fun hands-on activity.
Sections of the Pumpkin Investigation Activity:
- How the pumpkin looks: students will color and draw markings to represent how the pumpkin they are observing looks.
- The weight of the pumpkin: does it feel heavy like a rock or light like a feather?
- Sink or float experiment: students will watch as the pumpkin is dropped into a container of water. They will find out if a pumpkin sinks or floats when placed in water.
- Pumpkin height: using snap cubes, students will determine how tall the pumpkin is.
- Pumpkin Rib Counting: students will count the number of ribs (lines) that the pumpkin has.
- Optional (1): pumpkin seed counting: with your help opening the pumpkin, students will investigate the pumpkin to see how many seeds were contained within. (Kids love this part!)
- Optional (2): pumpkin pie taste test: this section will put your students’ taste buds to the test. Do your students like or dislike pumpkin pie?
There is also a shortened version of the pumpkin investigation activity included. This sheet removes the pumpkin pie tasting and the pumpkin seed counting.
This pumpkin investigation activity would be a perfect way to end a week, discussing pumpkins, or to use on a fun science day!
