Pumpkin Sink or Float Science Experiment
Explore the different parts of a pumpkin with this simple, hands-on pumpkin sink or float experiment!
Children will test the pumpkin top, stem, seeds, pulp and flesh to discover which parts float and which sink. Before testing each item, take a quick group vote. Then place it in the water, observe what happens and record the result.
This activity gives preschool and Pre-K children a chance to practice making observations, comparing results and using science words such as float, sink, predict and observe. It’s a fun addition to a pumpkin theme, science center or small-group activity!
