Bring a little fall fun into your STEM time with this Pumpkin STEM Station! Children will use candy pumpkins and toothpicks to design and build their own towers, shapes and structures.
As they build, children can experiment with balance, strength and stability. They may need to adjust their designs, add more support or try a new idea when a structure falls—giving them a simple way to practice problem-solving and persistence.
This station works well during centers, small groups, morning tubs or as part of a pumpkin-themed unit. Simply provide candy pumpkins and toothpicks, demonstrate how to connect the materials and let children begin creating!
Adult supervision is required because toothpicks are sharp. Candy used during the activity should not be eaten afterward.
