Make name practice a fun part of your literacy or name center with this Apple Tree Name Activity! Students will “pick” the letter apples from their tree and arrange them in the correct order to build their name.
This activity includes an editable PDF form that makes it easy to prepare personalized name practice for your students. Simply type in up to 6 student names at a time, and the letters will automatically populate onto the apple pieces. When you’re ready to create materials for another group of students, reset the form and enter a new set of names.
Each student can have their own apple tree, personalized letter apples and name plate. Name plates with the student’s name already typed are included for students who still need a visual model. Blank name plates are also included so you can remove the visual support as students become more confident spelling their names independently.
How It Works
Print one apple tree mat for each student, along with their personalized name plate and apple strip. Cut apart the apples and laminate the pieces for repeated use. Add Velcro dots to the apple tree and the backs of the letter apples, then place the apples randomly around the tree.
Students will “pick” the apples from their tree, find the letters in their name and place them in the correct order on their name plate.
This activity is a simple way to practice name recognition, letter recognition, letter order and name spelling while also adding a little fine motor practice. Use it during literacy centers, name practice, small groups, morning work or independent learning.
