This Gingerbread House Measuring activity is a festive way for preschoolers to explore measurement and comparison!
Children measure how tall each gingerbread house is using non-standard units, such as mini erasers, paper clips or snap cubes. A line beside each house helps guide their measuring. They can count the items and write the number in the answer box, or use the included number printouts to show their answer.
After measuring, children can put the houses in order from shortest to tallest or tallest to shortest, practicing comparison words as they go. An optional recording sheet is included, but it isn’t needed to complete the activity.
How to set up the Gingerbread House Measuring activity:
- Print and cut out the gingerbread houses.
- Laminate them if you’d like to reuse them.
- Choose a non-standard measuring tool for children to use.
- Have children measure each house along the line, count their units and record the answer in the box.
- Invite children to order the houses from shortest to tallest or tallest to shortest.
